Research data

Most major funders such as the SNSF or the European Union increasingly demand that research data generated by their funded projects become openly accessible just like the publications that are based on them. This means that applicants have to plan ahead how they will administrate, share and archive their research data.

We help you with this task.

You can get detailed information about how you can compose a data management plan (DMP)  in our DMP Writing Labs, that are announced bi-annually on our start page.

Courses about specific aspects of research data are available at anytime. If you are interested and for any other inquiry send us a mail at openscience@ub.unibe.ch.

Our institutional repository BORIS plays a central role in the yearly evaluation process of the University of Bern. Open Access and Open Data mandates

The Open Access and Open Data mandates of different funding agencies, institutions and countries are constantly changing. We are happy to bring you up to date with the latest information regards your obligations and rights in all things Open Access and Open Data.

Article Processing Charges (APC) and Book Processing Charges (BPC)

Many publishers charge Article Processing Charges (APCs) or Book Processing Charges (BPCs) for Open Access Gold publications. This means that authors pay a certain amount so that their publication is made available in Open Access. The spectrum of APC/BPC prices is large ranging from several hundred CHF to five-figure amounts.

However, the parameters are constantly changing. Funding agencies adjust the amounts they are willing to pay for APCs and BPCs and institutional publishing funds have their limits. At the same time, publishers attempt to secure their profit margins. Between these conflicting poles it is quite tricky for researchers to find an acceptable and financially feasible path to publishing in Open Access.

Wie are happy to support you in your planning: openscience@ub.unibe.ch
