Holzer collection
Erwin Holzer (1895-1972) was a physician. His specialist library is known for its wealth of international zoogeographical and ornithological literature. The collection also represents more than two centuries of ornithological book illustration. It exemplifies the way illustration techniques have changed: from hand colored plates or Japanese color woodcuts to modern four-color printing, from drawing to the photomechanical duplicating process, and from 35mm images in paperbacks to the large formats of the huge color plates by George Shield (1804-1880).
