Fellenberg collection
The library of the pedagogue and agronomist Philipp Emanuel von Fellenberg (1771-1844) has been part of the University Library Bern since 1897. As a complete collection it comprises 4,500 books, predominantly from the 18th and 19th centuries. Fellenberg, founder of the settlement Hofwil, collected works that he thought would prove useful for students and teachers in their educational institutions. Fellenberg's library classification, which illustrates the educational ideals of the period, was retained. The complete and homogeneous bindings make the collection particularly impressive.
