Bongarsiana
The library of the French diplomat and scientist Jacques Bongars (1554–1612) was incorporated in the “Liberey”, today’s University Library, in 1632. As a humanist Bongars collected books attempting to cover every field of knowledge possible in his time. The Bibliotheca Bongarsiana features 6.856 prints (among them 122 incunabula) und 500 manuscripts, predominantly of medieval origin. The print works are stored in the Münstergasse Library whereas the manuscripts are in the Burgerbibliothek.
